As a Survivor fan and a chicken blogger, I would be remiss if I didn't say a few words about Mark the Chicken. There have been chickens on Survivor before, and the role they've filled can be best described as "meals." Mark is the first chicken to actually function as a character in his own right. Credit for this can go to Tai Trang, who as a Buddhist and a vegetarian viewed this chicken as a fellow creature and not as mere protein. Tai, through the force of his personality, also convinced all of his fellow contestants that hungry though they were, Mark should not become their dinner. Though the prize money went to others, Mark is the real survivor this season!
